Smart Hackathon 2021

Join the 48 hour online Smart Hackathon in the weekend of 12-14 March! Master students from 6 universities will work on new smart technology & business concepts for some leading Belgian and French companies. The Smart Hackathon is part of the European TRANSUNIV Interreg project.

What's this 48h hackathon?

The goal of a hackathon is to create a new and concrete concept that answers a company challenge. It's a very intense, pressure cooker, event: in only 48 hours (from Friday afternoon at 16:00 till Sunday at 16:00) groups of students work on the challenges according to the principles of design thinking & business modeling.

One week before the Smart Hackathon, on Saturday 6 March 10:00-12:00, we organise a mandatory "Team Day" workshop where students from all participating universitities get to know each other and where the companies introduce their challenges.

Smart Challenges

During the hackathon our students will work on business challenges related to a technological topic in the companies. For Smart Hackathon 2021 these companies already confirmed their participation with a challenge.

AGC Glass Europe

AGC Glass Europe produces, processes and distributes flat glass for the building and automotive industries, and other sectors. How can AGC, as a company operating typically in B2B, create an experience where end customers (B2C) can customise, configure and buy glass for their home?

Hubo

Optimizing the CO2 footprint of Hubo, Belgians market leader in DIY stores, by 2030. The current facility management system is being replaced by SUMI shop controller. How can we make optimal use of active steering to reduce Hubo's CO2 footprint?

Libeert

Libeert is the Belgian market leader in hollow chocolate figurines. We want our new and creative designs to be available quickly in all stores. How can we drastically shorten the lead time from new design on paper to mass-production chocolate figurines on the store shelves?

Melexis

Melexis is market leader in smart sensors, drivers and other semiconductor solutions. They can be found in each car as well as in many other applications. How can we optimise the production of the ICs by predicting in a smart way (AI) the abnormal behavior or failures during production?

ScioTeq

ScioTeq is world leader in high performance displays for avionics, air traffic control and security applications. The company is a spin-off of Barco's display business. How could AI, image processing and big data change ScioTeq's future?

Vanraes

Our region is the vegetable garden of the world. Vanraes Tuinbouw designs and builds the most advanced agriculture infrastructure. How can Vanraes use smart LED lighting and Artificial Intelligence to increase the production of our agriculture?
